LOCATION
Nearest metro station is Bastille (lines 1, 5 and 8)
Bus line number 96 is also a nice link to other areas of Paris : it goes to Hotel de Ville then crosses all the Left Bank area between St Michel and Montparnasse over rue St Sulpice and rue de Rennes.
It also goes up to Menilmontant where many artists have settled down, and where
the famous Parisian "gouaille" of Maurice Chevalier originated; for one of his most typically Parisian songs, please copy/paste this in your address bar : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pum1ZV3WitI
Other bus lines are also stopping nearby.
In most noble part of Le Marais, near St Paul and famous Place des Vosges
- Bus 96 is a great link to Left Bank
- Walking distance from Ile St Louis and Notre Dame de Paris
- near lively area of rue St Antoine
and not far from fuzzy Bastille area and its modern Opera House, from Bofinger old Brasserie restaurants, and all other treasures of Le Marais (Goumanyat fabulous spice shop, Carnavalet Museum, etc...).
A few cosy restaurants are just downstairs, supermarkets and many other shops ands restaurants are steps away, mostly near St Paul metro station, also around Place des Vosges.
Do not miss both Bofinger brasserie-like restaurants, near Bastille, where even just the touristic menu offers great moments of pleasure at a reasonable price in an authentic decor.
In case you are American and you'd be homesick, don't worry : at the corner rue St Paul/rue Charles V is a charming grocery store offering, among many other things ... root beer.... and Dr Pepper !
But if you feel like a little walk for a good little Italian dinner at a very reasonable price, and you want to try the (truly) best pasta in Paris, then have a 10 minutes walk to Angelo Procopio, between 89 and 91 rue St Honoré (careful, not rue du Faubourg St Honoré), not far from Chatelet, before reaching Le Louvre : he makes the pasta himself from A to Z, you can take away or eat there (it is no big place) ... and surely you will want to return !
